Lucille Florence (Hartman) McFadden, age 98 of Lanark, Illinois, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Lucille was born January 5, 1911 in Savanna, the daughter of Adam and Alice (Hall) Hartman. She attended the Excelsior Country School, rural Savanna. In 1930, Lucille married Owen Moore. She later married Raymond “Mac” McFadden on September 28, 1953.
Lucille enjoyed being a homemaker. She also farmed with her husband, Raymond, in the bluff area between Savanna and Thomson. She loved family get-togethers at their farm. She always cooked from scratch using vegetables from her garden. She also canned much of her harvest, enjoyed crocheting, and hunted for morel mushrooms and watercrests. Lucille enjoyed being very competitive when playing cards, croquet, or other games with family and friends.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Raymond, of Lanark; her daughter, Lois (Bernard “Bud”) Hartman of Lanark; her daughter in-law, Betty Moore of Savanna; 13 grandchildren, Ronald Hartman of Milledgeville, Jerry (Sheila) Hartman of Mt. Carroll, Tom Hartman of Lanark, Peggy (Bill) Brown of Milledgeville, Mike (Darci) Hartman of Milledgeville, Lavonne (Scott) Sturtevant of Lake Carroll, Cathy (Dennis Dyson) Corey of Savanna, Colleen (Marc) Terry of LaCrosse, WI, Jimmy (Glenda) Moore of Thomson, Patty (John) Derrickson of Mt. Carroll, Raylene Moore of Mt. Carroll, Richard (Brenda) Byram of Thomson, and Brenda (Nick) Wade of Wilmington, NC; 29 great grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren. Preceding Lucille in death are two sons, William (at birth) and James (2000); four brothers, Wilbur, Leon, Lewis and Wayde; and two sisters, Jessie Kosier and Wilma Schradeya.

Diane Irene (Cottral) Brueggen
Diane Irene (Cottral) Brueggen, age 54, of 705 Monroe St., Hanover, Illinois died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Visitation will be 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 with a Rosary Service at 8:00 p.m. at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. After cremation rites, a Prayer Service will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Memorials may be made in Diane’s name for the Mayo Clinic.
Diane was born April 25, 1955 in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Daniel and Patricia (Ballein) Cottral. She is a graduate of Hanover High School with the Class of 1973. Diane met her future husband, Jeff Brueggen, in 1982. They were united in marriage May 31, 1986 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Diane worked several years as a Reservationist at Eagle Ridge Resort. She had also worked at Chestnut Mountain Resort and Rausch Realty of Stockton. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she taught Catechism and believed strongly in the Mystery of Holy Communion.
Diane’s joy and strength came from her husband, family, friends, and her faith. She was an accomplished homemaker and had a passion for music, cooking, gardening and socializing, “Sit Long, Talk Much, Laugh Often”. Diane showed great courage in her battle with cancer.
Diane will be dearly missed by her husband, Jeff Brueggen, of Hanover; her mother, Patricia “Pat” Cottral of Hanover; two sisters, Sheila (Dwayne) Allison of Hanover and Amy (Bill) Butzow of Lincolnwood, Illinois; two brothers, John (Kelly Behrens) Cottral and Jim Cottral both of Hanover; father and mother in-law, Albert and Marian Brueggen; a sister in-law, Jane Brussman; two brother in-laws, Pat (Darienne) Brueggen and Bill Brueggen; eight nieces, Eileen, Cecelia, Marikate, Maggie, Maria, Christina, Amanda and Megan; six nephews, Colin, Tony, Joe, Jack, Daniel and Alex; and a great nephew, Christian. Diane is preceded in death by her father, Danny Cottral; her sister, Dr. Julie (Cottral) Cerniglia; and a brother at birth, Christopher.
Wanda L. Kosher
Wanda L. Kosher, age 76 of Lanark, Illinois, died on Friday, June 19, 2009 at Big Meadows Nursing Facility, Savanna. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, Illinois. Reverend John Sgro of Lanark Church of the Brethren, Lanark will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lanark Cemetery, Lanark. Wanda was born on December 4, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Marjorie (McMahon) VanBuer in Savanna. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. She later attended Moline Business College, Moline, Illinois. Wanda married Richard Emmerson Kosher on December 9, 1950 in the rectory of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna.
Wanda worked as a secretary in an office at the Rock Island Arsenal and later for the Eaton Corporation, Lanark. Wanda and Emmerson moved to the Lanark area in 1952 and later moved to town in 1966. She loved her vegetable garden and enjoyed canning her own vegetables. She also enjoyed wintering in Florida, sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Emmerson; one son, Pat (Julie) Kosher of Cornell, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Nathaniel (fiancé, Malory Mundt) Kosher and Christopher Kosher. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Frank VanBuer.
Larry G. Zink
Larry G. Zink, age 61, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa, Iowa, after an extended illness. Larry was born August 31, 1947, in Stockton, Illinois, the son of Herman and Lucille (Kupfer) Zink. He attended school in Stockton and Mt. Carroll. Larry married Karen Kessler on November 13, 1965, in Lanark, Illinois.
Larry worked at Johnston’s Feed Service and Bee - Line Ready Mix in Mt. Carroll before working twenty-three years at the Savanna Army Depot as a Fire Fighter retiring as the Assistant Fire Chief. Larry enjoyed hunting, visiting with his friends and telling tall tales, playing the spoons, and truck driving. He was also a longtime member of the Mt. Carroll Volunteer Fire Department.
Larry is survived by his wife Karen Zink of Mt. Carroll, Illlinois; two sons, Jeff (Mary) Zink of Shannon, Illinois and Troy (Brenda) Zink of Mt. Carroll; three grandsons, Kyle, Tyler, and Adam Zink; one twin brother, Gary (Jennifer) Zink of Savanna, Illinois; a sister, Lori (Ron) Hefflefinger of Winnebago, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Ann Zink of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Richard.

Notice of Service times and dates are not scheduled at this time. Alberta was born May 2, 1929 in Gurley, Nebraska the daughter of Albert H. and Alice E. (Reinmuth) Fastenau. On December 27, 1946 she married Everett Mercer in Broadwater, Nebraska.
Alberta and Everett farmed in the Broadwater area until they began working for the Government Depot of Defense in Nebraska. Through working for the Government they worked and lived in many places including; California, Illinois, Texas, New York, Japan and lastly Oklahoma where they retired. After retiring Alberta enjoyed spending time with family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed sharing her crafts with others.
Alberta is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Skillman of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Katherine (Jim) Smeloff of Chandler, Arizona; two sons, Walter (Ronda) Mercer of Hanover, Illinois and Theodore (Connie) Mercer of Omaha, Nebraska; five sisters, Ella Emmett and Pauline Ewing of Mitchell, Nebraska, Lila Dunder of Torrington, Wyoming, Marva Lacy of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Linda Bruntz of Gering, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Marsha Gillis, Jason and Derrick Mercer, Sara Lobiondo and Steve Skillman; seven great grandchildren, Heidi, Holly, Heather, Hagin, Harper, Quincy, and Ethan.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Everett Mercer in 1988, one grandson Corey Walter; and one sister, Ladella Meyer.
Keith R. Odem
Memorial services for Keith R. Odem, 84, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport. Per his request, Mr. Odem’s body has been donated to University of Iowa Hospital for medical research and education. Mr. Odem passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Ridgecrest Health Care facility in Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Keith Robert Odem was born on January 18, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the son of Jesse and Pearl (Hummel) Odem. He married Katherine Olsen on May 2, 1953 in Davenport, IA. They met while attending a hayrack ride. Mr. Odem worked in the warehouse and as a truck driver for Farm House Foods and Consolidated Foods. He loved woodworking and to be outdoors, whether it be camping or fishing. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, a former member of the Davenport Breakfast Lions, Teamsters #371, and also served as Cub master and Scout master for the Boy Scouts.
Mr. Odem is survived by his Wife: Katherine of Davenport; two Daughters: Jane (John) Rice and Susan Odem both of Des Moines, IA; a Son: Randall “Randy”(Kathy) Odem of Town & Country, MO; a Sister: Ruth (George) Holmes of Bettendorf, IA; 7 Grandchildren: Jocelyn, Marianne, Andrea, Jesse, Nicholas, Brian, and Matthew; 4 Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marjorie, and a brother-in-law, Marion Olsen.
