Visiting Milledgeville/Polo went into Dakota on Thursday evening and pulled off a doubleheader sweep over the host team.
Milledgeville/Polo defeated Dakota 3-0 in eight innings in one game and 5-1 in the other matchup.
Dakota, which dropped to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference, couldn't get past Rick Lincoln-coached Milledgeville/Polo.
Missiles ace Keali Engelkens held Dakota scoreless in the first game as part of a strong pitching performance. Engelkens finished with 14
strikeouts while allowing just three hits and zero walks.
The first game was scoreless until Andrea Herin wrapped a two-run single. Mel Shleuning delivered a two-out RBI single for Milledgeville/Polo in
the first game of the doubleheader, accounting for the Missiles' other run.
The same Milledgeville/Polo pitcher claimed the win in the second game of the doubleheader.
Milledgeville/Polo continues to lead in the conference race. Following Thursday's doubleheader sweep, Milledgeville/Polo improved to 14-1
overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Eastland Edges Kirkland
Visiting Eastland got a clutch hit late to get past Kirkland 5-4 on Thursday evening in a high school softball matchup. Haylee
Endress delivered an RBI sacrifice-fly in the seventh inning as Eastland posted the win.
The Cougars improved to 11-4 overall and 7-0 in the NUIC-West following the hard-fought win over Kirkland.
Pearl City won convincingly in an other area high school softball game. The Wolves scored plated 11 of two dozen runs in the first inning en route
to a 24-0 win over Christian Life.
Pearl City enjoyed a diverse offensive attack in the winning effort. Nicole Lawler and Vanessa Dinderman had three hits and three RBIs apiece for
Pearl City in the victory over Christian Life.
At Galena, visiting Scales Mound/River Ridge rolled past Galena 13-0 in five innings. Darcy Steffes belted her first career home run for the
winning team.
Nicole Winter was the offensive leader for Scales Mound/River Ridge. Winter went 3-for-4 for SM/RR, which improved to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in
the NUIC-West.
West Carroll,
Lena-Winslow Split Doubleheader
West Carroll and Lena-Winslow softball teams split a doubleheader on Thursday in Thomson. Lena-Winslow won the first game 3-2,
edging the Thunder in a close contest. West Carroll prevailed in the second and final game of the doubleheader, defeating Lena-Winslow 10-1.
Following the doubleheader, West Carroll moved to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference. Lena-Winslow boasted a 10-4 overall record and
6-1 conference worksheet following the twin bill.
Undefeated Eastland (5-0) continues to lead in the NUIC-West.
In the first game, Lena-Winslow hurler Kayla Goebli pitched the Panthers past the Thunder. West Carroll pitcher Tiffany Cole suffered the loss in
the first game.
West Carroll pitcher Jordan Kasbohm dominated Lena-Winslow batters in the second game.
The Thunder also made the most of Lena-Winslow mistakes in the second game. Lena-Winslow committed 10 errors in the second and final game
of the doubleheader.
Milledgeville/Polo Blanks Eastland
Host Milledgeville/Polo plated three runs in the first inning on Friday and never faltered en route to a convincing 11-0 win in five innings
over rival Eastland on the softball diamond.
With the win, Milledgeville/Polo improved to 15-1 overall (5-0 NUIC-East). Eastland, after suffering the loss, dropped to 11-5 overall (5-0
NUIC-West).
Milledgeville/Polo pitcher Keali Engelkens was strong from start to finish. The Missiles' hurler allowed just one hit and didn't walk anyone.
Engelkens finished with 10 strikeouts in the five innings. She helped her cause at the plate with an inside-the-park home run. Engelkens'
inside-the-park connection accounted for the game's final run.
Andrea Herrin had a two-run single and Woodin connected on a two-RBI double for the victorious Milledgeville/Polo unit.
Milledgeville/Polo was strong after establishing the early lead. The Missiles led 9-0 at the conclusion of the second inning.
Bricelynn Myers had Eastland's lone hit. Engelkens faced one more batter than the minimum in the non-conference contest against a familiar foe.

Eastland remained in the win column on Thursday, defeating host River Ridge/Scales Mound 8-1. With the win, Eastland stretched its
NUIC-West win streak to five games. The Cougars were stout from the opening pitch in the conference matchup.
Ben Delp was one of the offensive leaders for Eastland. Delp went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cougars. Tyler Giedd delivered a game-high
three RBIs for the Cougars as he ranked as another offensive leader for Eastland. Giedd finished 2-for-3 from the plate for the Eastland baseball team.
Following the win, Eastland improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
River Ridge/Scales Mound, following the loss, fell to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the NUIC-West after suffering the loss.
Forreston Beats SoBo's
In another area game, Forreston defeated host South Beloit 5-1. Michael Osterloo pitched seven strong innings for Forreston. Osterloo struck out
four opposing batters to lead Forreston to the victory over South Beloit.
Offensively, Michael Johnson finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI for the Cardinals.
Forreston moved to 7-13 overall and 3-2 in the NUIC-East.
West Carroll Falls to Warren/Stockton
Homestanding Warren/Stockton turned back West Carroll 15-9 on Friday night in a high school baseball game that featured plenty of
offensive firepower from both Northwest Illinois teams.
Jared Hess went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for host Warren/Stockton. Hess, who ultimately claimed a win on the mound, had a solo home run
for one of his two hits.
The War Hawks, which improved to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the NUIC-West, jumped out in front early on in the high school matchup.
Warren/Stockton led 12-1 before West Carroll mounted a mild rally.
West Carroll struggled in the field, committing nine errors behind pitcher Adam Ferguson.
Numerous players stepped up offensively for Warren/Stockton. Jared McNutt (2-for-3) and Jason Brinkmeier (2-for-4) had a pair of hits apiece for
the Warhawks. Garrett Cox contributed an RBI sac fly for Warren/Stockton.
Luke Ingersol had an RBI double and Tripper Carey drove in a pair of runs.
Hess was the game's winning pitcher.
